Experimenting with Temperature Sensors

Test number ONE
Conservatory Floor test



My conservatory has electric underfloor heating and I was curious just how the heating performed and these temperature sensors gave me the opportunity to see just how the heating performed. Using the 5 sensors, I placed on to measure the air temperature and then used the other four to measyre the floor temperature. Because the air temperature was quite cold, I placed a sock over each floor sensor to allow it to get a better reading of the floor heating. I intend to repeat the test but having two covered and two uncovered to see what the difference is between them.



Below is the reaults of the data captured from the sensors. The heating was turned on at 10:30 and off at 13:30.




The red line is the average of the four floor sensors, the blue line the air temperature (at window sill level). Although the floor temperature appears to have got to 25degrees, that was where the sensors were insulated from the air. The rest of the floor was still cool to cold under foot. The irregular air temperature shown by the blue line is likely due to the sun as the conservatory is South facing and there were sunny spells during the test.
